📉 Bitcoin Near $77K: Two Events Could Decide the Market’s Next Move
Bitcoin is back around the $77,000–$78,000 zone, and this time the weakness isn't being driven by one simple crypto narrative.
The market is heading into a potentially decisive 48-hour period with two major U.S. events landing almost back-to-back: the Senate's CLARITY Act vote and the Federal Reserve's interest-rate decision.
Bitcoin traded around $77,800 earlier on September 15 as traders weighed the regulatory vote alongside rising oil prices, higher bond yields and increasingly hawkish expectations for the Fed.
So is Bitcoin simply experiencing another pullback — or is the market preparing for something bigger?
The first catalyst is political.
The U.S. Senate is scheduled to hold a procedural vote on the CLARITY Act, one of Washington's most significant attempts to establish a regulatory framework for digital assets.
The legislation needs 60 votes to advance, and the result remains uncertain.
For crypto, this matters far beyond one day of price action.
For years, one of the biggest complaints from exchanges, developers and institutional investors has been regulatory uncertainty in the United States.
Which digital assets fall under securities regulation?
Which fall under commodities regulation?
What rules should exchanges follow?
Where does the SEC's authority end and the CFTC's begin?
Greater clarity could reduce part of that uncertainty.
That doesn't automatically mean Bitcoin pumps the moment the bill advances. Markets often price expectations in before political events occur.
But from a longer-term perspective, clearer market structure could make it easier for traditional financial institutions to participate in crypto without operating inside a regulatory grey area.
This may actually be the bigger short-term risk for Bitcoin.
The Federal Reserve concludes its September meeting on September 16, and expectations have shifted dramatically toward tighter monetary policy.
A Reuters poll found 85% of economists expected a 25-basis-point increase, which would bring the Fed's target range to 3.75%–4.00%. Market-based expectations have been even more hawkish.
Why does Bitcoin care?
Higher rates can:
• Increase returns available from safer assets such as government bonds
• Strengthen the U.S. dollar
• Increase borrowing costs
• Reduce appetite for leveraged and speculative positions
• Put pressure on risk assets, including crypto
And there is another problem: oil.
Rising energy prices have reinforced inflation concerns, while the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield has pushed above 5%.
That's not the easiest environment for Bitcoin.
Bitcoin's current price action tells me something interesting.
The market isn't collapsing.
But buyers also haven't shown enough strength to decisively reclaim the psychologically important $80,000 level.
Bitcoin recently traded as high as roughly $82,163 on September 4 before falling back below $80,000.
That leaves BTC sitting between optimism about regulatory progress and fear of tighter financial conditions.
In other words:
Crypto-specific news may be improving while macro conditions are becoming harder.
That's the battle traders are currently pricing.
Suppose the CLARITY Act advances and the Fed's message turns out to be less aggressive than traders fear.
That combination could remove two major uncertainties at once.
Regulatory progress could improve long-term sentiment while a less-hawkish Fed could reduce pressure from yields and the dollar.
Under that scenario, reclaiming $80K would become an important signal to watch.
Now imagine the opposite.
The CLARITY Act fails to advance, the Fed hikes and signals that additional increases are likely.
Bitcoin would then be dealing with regulatory disappointment and tighter liquidity expectations at the same time.
That's the environment where traders should expect volatility rather than assume every dip will immediately be bought.
I'm less interested in guessing whether Bitcoin will move $2,000 up or down after one headline.
The more important question is what regime the market enters after these events.
The CLARITY Act can influence crypto's regulatory direction.
The Fed can influence the price and availability of money across practically every risk market.
Put those together and Bitcoin is sitting between two forces:
Regulation could become more crypto-friendly while monetary policy becomes less risk-friendly.
That's why $77K isn't the whole story.
This week could tell us whether Bitcoin can absorb tightening financial conditions — or whether macro pressure still has the final word.

🇺🇸 Event #1: The CLARITY Act
